Nine Reasons for Private School

The Brightmont Academy Team • September 13, 2017

Every year, parents make a decision to send their kids to public school, or to apply for private school. Here are nine reasons why you should strongly consider sending your kids to private school.

1. Smaller class sizes

In public schools, it can be common for one teacher to teach twenty-five or more students in a class. With a teacher's time divided among so many students, public school does not offer as much individual attention for each student. Class sizes are typically smaller in private schools, meaning students can receive more personal attention from teachers. At Brightmont Academy, we instruct using a one-to-one model. This means one teacher for every student. This way, your child will get the optimal amount of attention and guidance from their instructor. With one-to-one instruction, your child is not an anonymous student in a large class. They will be the sole focus of the teacher during class.

2. Dedicated teachers

Private school teachers are typically extremely very dedicated and well qualified. While both public and private school teachers hold advanced degrees in their field, in an environment with smaller class sizes, private school teachers can focus their talents to help individual students succeed. In a study of private school parents, 91 percent reported that having dedicated teachers was the number one reason they sent their students to private school. Parents value dedicated teachers because they want their children to receive the best possible education from their school. With access to proper curriculum and an environment to support all learning styles, highly devoted teachers provide greater opportunities to help students succeed. Private school teachers can be the catalyst to an optimal education for your child.

3. Safety

Safety is another top priority for most parents when it comes to schools. This is especially true considering the rise of cyber bullying and the many types of criminal behavior that can occur on school grounds. Private schools are more than twice as safe as public schools. Increased safety at private schools is largely a result of more security and a lower teacher-student ratio. When there are more adults on campus relative to the number of students, it is easier for the student body to be supervised. Suspicious behavior can be reported more quickly, incidents can be responder to faster, and there are more adults ready to step in to decelerate any tensions that may be building. Private schools can provide the safe environment you value for your child.

4. Parental involvement

Many private schools make a strong effort to involve parents, and some require parent participation. These relationships between the school and the family allow parents an enhanced opportunity to understand the full education experience. On the contrary, public schools may provide as few as one or two parent-teacher conferences per year.In private schools, parents and teachers can meet and communicate much more frequently. It is also common for private schools to host family events. If you want to be more involved in your child's schooling, then private schools often offer many opportunities.

5. Community feel

Many private schools make a dedicated effort to create a community environment. When school feels more like a community, students can feel safer, more comfortable, and more passionate about learning. Public schools offer a broader array of activities, but these may be less accessible because of the quantity of students competing to participate or students may hesitate to join an activity when they are unfamiliar with the other students. Some schools struggle to create ways for students to come together in non-academic settings and build meaningful bonds with peers and staff.Private schools are mission driven, and often offer school components that prioritize a particular field of study or community. When these offerings match the family's values, the benefits of the academic program are multiplied. Other students need a particular type of instruction and can search for a private school with that specific focus. Schools that are able to address a specific need of the student or their family are invaluable.

6. Resources

Because private schools usually charge tuition and may also have endowments, there may be more resources available to improve the student experience. This can include everything from state of the art learning tools and technology to teachers with specialized depth of knowledge.Having ample resources doesn't just apply to financial resources; the strong community support, active involvement of parents and staff, and a united value system also contribute to the overall quality of a school and are factors to consider when determining the right fit for your child.

7. Extremely high graduation rates

The graduation rate for private high school students across America is just under 100 percent. Comparatively, the graduation rate is just 80 percent for public high school students in the nation. Your child will have a significant advantage of graduating from high school if they attend a private school, and will be surrounded by peers who also aspire to graduate.

8. Networking opportunities

Many private school students go on to become quite accomplished in their field, and stay loyal and connected to their school. If your child attends a private school, he or she will become a part of the alumni network for this school, which can potentially lead to career opportunities down the line.

9. Expectation of Success

Many private schools represent the highest quality education options that are available. The mission of the private school attracts students with similar interests, talents, and aspirations. Each student starts the school year with well-defined goals for academic achievement. An investment in private education enables the family to prioritize their child's development and customize their education experience to be successful.

Final thoughts

Private schools create an environment where your child can develop intellectually, emotionally and socially. Parents who value small class sizes, increased safety, a connected community and dedicated teachers find that private schools are a good fit for their child and provide an optimal education experience.

Illinois Private School Highlights One-to-One Instruction for Grades 1-12 St. Charles & Naperville, IL — Brightmont Academy, an accredited private school offering fully individualized, one-to-one instruction for students in grades 1–12, announces that Meredith Hale, Campus Director of the St. Charles campus, and Lindsay Morales, Campus Director of the Naperville campus, were recently featured guests on the #NoLimits podcast. The podcast is hosted by educator, advocate, and author Shelley Kenow and is rooted in the belief that no one can fully predict a person’s potential or future—and that opportunities should never be limited by labels or assumptions. Hale and Morales connected with Kenow at the Dynamics of Dyslexia conference in Illinois, where they discovered a shared passion for supporting neurodiverse learners and the families who advocate for them. “Meredith and I met Shelley at the conference and quickly connected around our mutual commitment to helping students access education that truly meets their needs,” said Morales. Kenow’s mission to spotlight individuals and organizations that help others reach their fullest potential closely aligns with Brightmont Academy’s educational philosophy. Brightmont partners with families to create individualized learning environments that remove barriers and empower students to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. “We were honored to be guests on Shelley’s podcast,” Morales said. “Her work centers on helping students and families navigate—and ultimately break through—the limits society often places on them.” For both campus leaders, participating in the podcast reflects their shared commitment to advocacy, connection, and reimagining what education can look like for students who need a more personalized approach. “Being part of Shelley’s community allows us to share how Brightmont supports students in meaningful, individualized ways, and to contribute to a broader conversation about reimagining education for learners who need something different,” Morales added. The #NoLimits podcast is on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Facebook, and YouTube. Brightmont Academy is located at 620 E Main St. in St. Charles and at 1528 Aurora Ave. in Naperville and is currently accepting enrollments. When we talk about learning differences, vision is often treated as one of the simplest variables to address. The solutions we reach for are familiar in recommending glasses, larger print, or a seat closer to the board. These supports can be helpful, but they are often built on an assumption that vision is primarily about clarity. In my work with neurodivergent and vision-challenged students at Brightmont Academy , I’ve learned that vision is rarely that simple. I’ve worked with learners who have Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI), neurological vision challenges, and progressive vision loss. One student I worked with began losing her sight in 10th grade and is now legally blind. What stood out most was not only how her vision changed, but how quickly expectations around her learning shifted alongside it. The challenge was never her ability. It was her access. For many learners, vision is not just about what the eyes detect, but how the brain processes, organizes, and sustains visual information. When that distinction is misunderstood, even well-intentioned accommodations can easily miss the mark.

Private School in Cherry Creek Specializing in One-to-One Instruction for 1st-12th Grade Students Cherry Creek, CO — Brightmont Academy has named Nadine Ritchotte as Campus Director of its Cherry Creek campus, bringing more than 30 years of experience in public education to the role. Ritchotte will lead the new campus as Brightmont continues to expand its individualized, one-to-one learning model for students in grades 1–12 across the Denver metro area. After decades in traditional public education, Ritchotte was drawn to Brightmont’s mission of meeting students where they are academically, socially, and emotionally. After 30 years in public education, I finally realized the limits on what I could change,” Ritchotte said. “Brightmont Academy represents the kind of alternative model I believe in, one that individualizes learning and helps students thrive in a supportive, safe environment.” Located in the heart of the Denver metropolitan area, Cherry Creek is uniquely positioned to serve families across multiple school districts. The area is surrounded by at least five public school systems, each with students who may struggle in traditional classroom environments for a variety of reasons — from learning differences to social challenges or the need for greater flexibility. Ritchotte sees Brightmont’s one-to-one instructional approach as an ideal solution for students who may feel overlooked or unsupported elsewhere. “Brightmont Academy can help those students find their potential and love for learning through one-to-one learning,” she said. Looking ahead, Ritchotte’s vision extends beyond academic progress to help students rebuild confidence and rediscover joy in learning. “I want the Brightmont Academy Cherry Creek Campus to help students rediscover their potential,” Ritchotte said. “Success for our campus looks like a place where students who once struggled feel capable, engaged, and proud to be who they are.” Brightmont Academy is located at 3773 E Cherry Creek North Dr., Suite 145, in Cherry Creek and is currently accepting enrollments.
